Our trip to Bitola

On Sunday we went in Bitola,a wonderful Macedonian city.Bitola is full with very important historic monuments. That's why most of the students that are here in the Dormitory wanted to go.We should leave at 9:00 h in the morning.
When we arrived there the first place that we visited was the ancient city of Heraklea. It's a place with ruins and mosiacs witch are very old(with centuries). There is a place like a little museum with stuff (vases, set for lunch and different type to work with). Some of them were from the same time like the ruins and mosiacs and some of them were older.
While the bigger group of students were seeing Heraklea, other smaller group was in the ZOO because they have already been in Heraklea. There were different animals like: bears, tigers, lions, monkeys etc.
After that we visit the museum of Kemal Ataturk. After we heard the lovely and at the same time sad love story between Kemal Ataturk and Elena from Bitola and saw the things there like for example the piano than we went in the center of Bitola-Sirok sokak. We decided to rest and refresh our selves in the cafe-bar"Bure".
Than we left to the last place where we should go that day and that is national park Pelister. There was wonderful. There was a path which was leading to the place called Molika where we spend some time. But the interesting thing was that the place where was the path to Molika actually was battlefield in the First World War where Macedonians were fighting with the enemies. It was amazing and unusually feeling to be at the place where our soldiers and forefathers were giving all of them selves even their lives. There were pictures of the enemies and weapons and by the way than for the first time was used chemical weapons like warhead.
At the end of the day we were tired but also happy and satisfied.

Saturday and Sunday trip

Hello everybody! I don't know what you have spent your weekend, but I was in some very nice trips and now I will tell you about them.
On Saturday we visited the Monastery of Sv. Iovan Bigorski (St. John Bigorski). This is an amazing macedonian monastery. It is situated in a very nice place in the mountains.
I took so many great pictures there but unfortunately I can't share them with you now.
I found out that the iconostatis there is very special. It is wood-carved by a very known macedonian artist who at the end of his work became blind and one of his students finished the work. We could see some differences at the iconostasis at the part that was not finished by the original artist. They also have there an icon of Saint Nikola and it is said that it's a miracle icon. Many people came there to pray and many of them receive answers to their praying.
It was a nice experience and I enjoyed a lot visiting this monastery.

After this we visited a very well known village Vevcani. I know that in January there is a famous carnival in this village, but for now we just visited a spring. It was nice because the landscape is very beautiful and the water so refreshing after such a long way with the bus.

After this we went to Struga. I enjoyed every part of this trip, but Struga was no doubt the best part. It is a very nice town on the lake Ohrid, known because of the great landscape and because of the Black Drin river. I noticed something unusual here. Not the river was flowing into the lake, bu the lake was flowing into the river.. Strage..
Something else I really liked here was the atmosphere.. All the people there were just enjoying their life near the lake or near the river. People swiming everywere, a nice cool brize because of so much water around, the weather was great and the town has a unique charm because of the landscape and because of his very nice buildings.

On Sunday trip again :)
This time we went to Bitola, but on the way we visited Heraclea.
Heraclea is a very intresting archeological site. Our guide told us the story of every ruin there. The most impresive was the teatre. We sit there and imagined how the gladiators performed their shows thre many centuries ago and is was indeed very interesting. We took many many pictures and then we went to Bitola, a very beautiful city in Macedonia. Here we visited the museum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. before this trip I had some very few information about this very important figure here so is was a very instructive experience for me.
We went hikin after this. We hiked on Pelister Mountain and we all enjoyd the wonderful view there. It was refreshing and I'm really glad I had the chance to participate.

I'm sure you all enjoyd your weekend and I'm looking forward to read your reflections about the trips.
Have a great day!

We found something on Wikipedia about the monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski which we are about to visit in Saturday and there are some pictures too, we hope you like it.

Monastery of St. Jovan (John) Bigorski (Macedonian: Свети Јован Бигорски/St.Jovan Bigorski) is an important Macedonian monastery located in western part of the Republic of Macedonia, near the road connecting the towns of Debar and Gostivar.

The monastery church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. According to the monastery's 1833 chronicle, it was built in 1020 by Archbishop Jovan. The Ottomans destroyed the monastery in the XVI century. The monastery was restored in 1743 by the monk Ilarion, who also built several monk cells. Later, in the period from 1812 to 1825 the monastery was expanded by archimandrite Arsenius. Among the donors there is also a mention of a monk Iov, recognized by some researchers as the future educator Joakim Krcovski. One of the most valuable treasures of the monastery is the iconostasis created by Petre Filipovski Garkata and Makarie Frckovski from the nearby village of Gari. This iconostasis is considered one of the most beautiful and most valuable wood-carved iconostasis in the orthodox religion. Another valuable monastery treasure is an icon dating from 1020 with supposedly miraculous healing power.
